Electrical & fire alarm contractors in Northern Virginia

We hold a Virginia master electrician licence and work across the inner Northern Virginia jurisdictions. Virginia runs a single statewide building code, so the code itself does not change as you cross a county line — but the permit office, the fee schedule and the inspection scheduling all do.

What is different about Northern Virginia

Same code book, different front desk. These are the local specifics that decide how long a job takes here.

Building code
Every Virginia locality enforces the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC), which adopts the International Codes and the National Electrical Code with Virginia amendments. Localities may not adopt stricter local building codes of their own.Source
Permitting authority
Permits are issued locally: Arlington County Inspection Services, the City of Alexandria Department of Code Administration, Fairfax County Land Development Services, and the City of Falls Church each run their own intake and inspection scheduling.Source
Electric utility
Dominion Energy Virginia serves the region. New services and service upgrades are coordinated with Dominion, whose lead times are separate from the county's inspection schedule.Source
Licensing
Virginia tradesman licences are issued by the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) and can be checked against the public licence lookup.Source

Why C & A, Inc.

We are a family-run, woman-owned electrical and fire alarm contractor that has worked in this region since 1977. We hold master electrician licences in Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia, we are a Certified Business Enterprise in the District, and our clients include the National Institutes of Health, the National Park Service, the Department of Commerce and DC Water alongside general contractors, property managers and homeowners.

Whichever jurisdiction the work is in, the same licensed crews do it — we do not sub the electrical out.
